Lesson 8 : Level 3 : Katakanas with ORERU at a sharp angle, MAGARU at a left bottom corner

In the previous lesson, we learned letters with ORERU at a right angle. Now we've added a few Katakanas with ORERU at a sharp angle.

ア【a】

This is the first letter of Katakana by AIUEO sort, it's just like "A" of "ABC".

Then this is the original Kanji.

マ【ma】

I think most of you can't see why the original is like this;

But when you imagin to write this with SHODO tequnique by using a brush, you'll see it. The first stroke of the Kanji ends at the right upper, then the brush go down to the left side for the 2nd stroke...

ヤ【ya】

The original Kanji of Katakana's "ヤ" is the same as Hiragana's "や".

The next one is conbination of 2 lines.

The first one is

Then it becomes,

Just like ヤ and や, the original Kanji of Katakana's "セ" is the same as Hiragana's "せ".

I'd like to introduce a Kanji that you can write easity now. It's a number.

七【nana / shichi】

七 can be read either 【nana】or【shichi】
Then, let's review the numbers.

We can write now with 七 :
十七【juu-nana】【juu-shichi】
二十【ni-juu-nana】【ni-juu-shichi】
三十【san-juu-nana】【san-juu-shichi】
四十七【yon-juu-nana】【shi-juu-shichi】

七十【nana-juu】【shichi-juu】
七十一【nana-juu-ichi】【shichi-juu-ichi】
七十二【nana-juu-ni】【shichi-juu-ni】
七十三【nana-juu-san】【shichi-juu-san】
七十四【nana-juu-yon】【shichi-juu-yon】
七十七【nana-juu-shichi】【shichi-juu-shchi】
七十八【nana-juu-hachi】【shichi-juu-hachi】

八十【hachi-juu-yon】【hachi-juu-shi】

In general conversation, we usually read it as 【nana】, however it would be better for you to read in both ways. Sometimes Japanese read it as 【shichi】 in common, such as memorize matrix table when they are in elementary school.

7x1=7【shichi-ichi-ga-shichi】
7x2=14 【shichi-ni-juushi】
7x3=21【shichi-san-ni-juu-ichi】
7x4=28【shichi-shi-ni-juu-hachi】
7x5=35【shichi-go-san-juu-go】
7x6=42【shichi-roku-shi-juu-ni】
7x7=49【shichi-shichi-shi-juu-ku】
7x8=56【shichi-ha-go juu-roku】
7x9=63【shichi-ku-roku-juu-san】
etc...

Now, we've almost done Katakana with 2 strokes!
